Everyday Diabetes: Practical Management for Primary Care
In this series we will explore the nuts and bolts of prescribing insulin therapy. As people are living longer with diabetes, it is important to recognize that most people with type 2 diabetes will eventually need insulin. While the availability of a basal insulin analog has made it easier for primary care providers (PCPs) to manage diabetes with insulin, we still struggle to maximize the benefits while minimizing concerns such as nonadherence and hypoglycemia. In these discussions, we will explore many topics with PCPs like you who are using best practices with insulin and can provide insights to help your practice. The series is moderated by Jay Shubrook, DO, a board-certified family physician and fellowship-trained diabetologist. Dr Shubrook is a professor in the Department of Primary Care, and director of Diabetes Services and Clinical Research, at Touro University California College of Osteopathic Medicine in Vallejo, California. He completed his medical and fellowship training at Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, which is the medical school of Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. He serves as an associate editor to both Clinical Diabetes and the Journal of the American Osteopathic Association and is on the editorial board of Diabetes Medicine Matters. Dr Shubrook also chairs the American Diabetes Association's Primary Care Advisory Group. His research and publications focus on advancing primary care treatment of type 2 diabetes.
