Suchitra Sundaram, MD, reflects on a prospective study presented at ASH 2023 that investigated the use of geriatric assessment tools to better gauge which patients with non-Hodgkin lymphoma will experience treatment toxicities.
In exploring the use of geriatric assessment tools to predict treatment toxicities, Dr Sundaram highlights the significance of tests like the Karnofsky Performance Scale Index and the Timed Up and Go test. Drawing on a clinical scenario, Dr Sundaram notes that the data serve as a reminder of the heterogeneity of older adult populations and the need to tailor treatment on the basis of factors other than age alone.
