How Ill Is This Toddler?
A previously healthy 2-year-old boy presents with a rash beginning symmetrically on his hands and feet (Figure 1). He has a low-grade fever and is not on any medications. He is a bit sleepier than usual but does not have any other symptoms.
The rash moved from the hands and feet centrally over the next 2 days. There was a small rash on the boy's mouth, but other mucosal surfaces were not involved.
